Cell C

The short answer
Cell C stopped running its own radio network and has used MTN's and Vodacom's networks since 2023. When a phone shows Cell C, the signal is physically coming from one of those two, so coverage follows them.
Checked on September 30, 2026
Cell C is the network that stopped being a network. Since completing its migration in 2023 it has used MTN’s and Vodacom’s radio networks rather than its own, selling services on top of them.
What that means on a phone
A phone showing Cell C is using infrastructure run by MTN or Vodacom. Coverage is therefore similar to those two in the places that matter, and the brand tells you more about the shop than about the signal.
If your phone shows Cell C
Nothing changes for you: the eSIM is on a partner network with data roaming on, exactly as with any other name in the status bar. Check the line settings as in Switch it on after landing if anything stalls.
A Cell C SIM instead
Cell C sells prepaid SIMs, with the same RICA registration and passport rule as every South African SIM. For a short trip the eSIM avoids the queue and keeps your own number.
